The Boxer

The Boxer

April 12, 1969 - After over 100 hours in production, Simon and Garfunkel completed the recording of their hit song, The Boxer on this day. The song required multiple recording sessions in Nashville, St. Paul's church in New York, and Columbia studios.

There are many memorable elements to the song, including a thundering drum effect that was achieved by playing the sound of a snare drum over a loudspeaker at the bottom of an elevator shaft. Near the end of the tune there's a booming foghorn-like effect that was created with a Moog synthesizer.

The Boxer is #105 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 greatest songs of all time.
