Groucho

Groucho

August 19, 1977 - Comedian Julius Henry Marx, AKA "Groucho," died of pneumonia on this day at the age of 86.

With or without his greasepaint moustache, Groucho was the most recognizable of his famous siblings, the Marx Brothers. Together they appeared in 13 feature films including Animal Crackers, Duck Soup and Horse Feathers. Groucho also had a long solo career in television.

In his final days with his health failing, Groucho still maintained his legendary sense of humor.  As his longtime friend George Fenneman lifted him out of his wheelchair to move him into his bed, Groucho whispered, "Fenneman, you always were a lousy dancer."
