Voice of Asteron

November 26, 1977 - At 5:10 PM the nightly news report on England's Southern Television broadcast was interrupted by an audio hijacking. Thousands of viewers then heard some weird buzzing sounds, followed by the creepy voice of Asteron, who claimed to be an alien with a message of peace.

Here's a partial transcript of what he had to say:

This is the voice of Asteron. I am an authorised representative of the Intergalactic Mission, and I have a message for the planet Earth. We are beginning to enter the period of Aquarius and there are many corrections which have to be made by Earth people. All your weapons of evil must be destroyed. You have only a short time to learn to live together in peace. You must live in peace... or leave the galaxy.

The network and police switchboards were flooded with calls and some viewers were very spooked by the incident. A subsequent investigation revealed the relative ease of the hijacking, and as a result new standards of security were adopted to protect television transmissions from similar intrusions.

Some still believe that Asteron is the real deal. Obviously those people are insane.
