The Man with the X-Ray Eyes
February 5, 1981 - Kuda Bux died on this day. He was a famous Indian mystic who thrilled audiences and baffled scientists with an amazing demonstration of x-ray vision.
After covering his eyes with soft dough and a blindfold, Kuda would swath his face with strips of cloth. After his head was completely bundled he would read random words written on chalkboards by his audience members or recite dates printed on coins.
Kuda was also an accomplished fire walker. During the 30s and 40s he performed all around the world. In 1945 he rode a bicycle through New York's Times Square with his eyes taped shut. In the 50s he had his own TV series.
Ironically, when not blindfolded Kuda had very bad eyesight. In fact, he would eventually lose his vision entirely to glaucoma.
He died in 1981 and to this day many skeptics are still scratching their heads about his unexplained powers of perception.
