Snuppy

April 24, 2005 - The first successsfully cloned dog was born on this day. Snuppy was created through an elaborate process that involved taking skin cells from an adult Afghan hound and implanting them inside the fertile eggs of 123 surrogate moms.

Snuppy was the only pup to survive the experiment and he lived a relatively normal dog’s life. He died in 2015.

The controversial veterinarian and researcher who brought Snuppy to life has since founded a company that clones dogs for about $100,000 a pop. According to one report he had cloned over 700 dogs as of 2015.
