Liberty Unveiled

October 28, 1886 - This was the day that President Grover Cleveland unveiled the Statue of Liberty at its official dedication ceremony.

The giant copper-skinned sculpture stands over 300 feet above New York Harbor. It was designed by Frederic Auguste Bartholdi and presented to America as a gift from the people of France. The face of Liberty was modeled after Bartholdi's mother, while the body was inspired by his wife.
