The End of Crazy Horse

The End of Crazy Horse

September 5, 1877 - Crazy Horse was the fearless leader of the Lakota, who led his people to victory at the Battle of Little Big Horn, but this was the day he died.

Weary from years of fighting against the American soldiers, Crazy Horse and his followers surrendered to the authorities at the Red Cloud Agency in Nebraska. Incorrect rumors spread that Crazy Horse was preparing for another uprising, and during a botched attempt to put him under arrest he was bayoneted by a guard.

Feeling betrayed, his last words were, “Let me go my friends. You have got me hurt enough.”

His body was given to his elderly parents who eventually moved his remains to a secret location somewhere in the Black Hills of South Dakota. His final resting place remains a mystery.
