The Pascagoula Encounter
September 17, 1974 – This was the day that two shipyard workers from Mississippi gave sworn affidavits of an other-worldly encounter. Neither man would ever recant his story, and the case stands as one of the best-documented reports in UFO history.
At around 9PM on October 11, 1973, Charles Hickson and Calvin Parker went night fishing on a pier along the Pascagoula River. 15 minutes later, they started to hear a strange buzzing/whirring sound. Suddenly, an oval-shaped object around 30 to 40 feet wide and glowing with blue lights descended from above.
Three grayish beings emerged from the mysterious craft. They were each about 5 feet tall. They had wrinkled skin and claw-like pincers for hands. The men described them as having “carrot-shaped” ears and noses.
Hickson and Parker said they were unable to run from the scene. Paralyzed by some invisible force, the men floated into the craft.
Parker claimed he passed out, but he would later recall that it felt like he was being examined. Hickson’s memory was more vivid, and he told of being probed by a device that resembled a floating eyeball.
After about 20 harrowing minutes, the men were plunked back on the riverbank and the flying object departed silently.
Dazed and rattled, Hickson and Parker went to the local sheriff’s office to report their abduction. Not surprisingly, the authorities suspected the men were trying to pull off a hoax, so they left them alone in a room where their conversation was secretly recorded. Their terrified and confused discussion about what they had just gone through bolstered their credibility.
The bizarre case became a media sensation and both men gave many interviews over the years. Their recollections of the encounter never changed.
