The Cando Event
January 18, 1994 - Just before dawn in the small Spanish town of Cando, Galicia, 3 dozen residents watched a large luminous object move across the sky. It was described as being larger than a full moon and its movement was so slow that some witnesses followed it for as long as a minute.
3 months later a large gouge was found in a nearby hillside. Almost 300 cubic yards of soil had been scooped out along with trees that were uprooted and tossed 300 feet away.
Many believe the incidents were connected, but no trace of meteorites or other objects was found at the site of the hillside disruption.
One theory is that the hole in the hill may have been caused by an explosion of subterranean gases which in turn sent a fireball blasting across the sky.
As of now, it remains a mystery.
