The Dingle Dell Meteorite

The Dingle Dell Meteorite

October 31, 2016 – For six wild seconds, a bright fireball blazed across the sky in Western Australia. Less than a week later, a search team found the 2.5 pound meteorite on the Dingle Dell Farm near the town of Morawa.

The discovery is notable because the searchers were able to retrieve the object before any rainfall, which means the artifact was pristine and an excellent specimen for research.

Where did it come from? Scientists believe it originated from the asteroid main belt, somewhere between Mars and Jupiter.

Around 10,000 meteorites hit the earth every year.
