63 Yards
November 8, 1970 - With 2 seconds left, and losing 17 to 16 to the Detroit Lions, Tom Dempsey of the New Orleans Saints kicked the longest field goal in NFL history.
28 years later in 1998, Jason Elam of the Denver Broncos kicked another 63-yarder. It wasn’t until 2013 when Matt Prater booted in a 64 yarder, the current record.
One thing that makes Dempsey's kick in 1970 even more remarkable, is that Dempsey was born without any toes on his kicking foot. Some critics complained that Dempsey's modified shoe gave him an unfair advantage.
Whatever the case, it was an incredible kick!
