A Safe Death

A Safe Death

October 10, 1911 - Jack Daniel, the legendary whiskey distiller, died on this day after complications from an infected toe.

Legend has it that Daniel had injured the toe while kicking a safe in his office. He had arrived early to work and had grown frustrated after forgetting the safe's combination.

The banged-up toe festered and an infection set in. It eventually worsened into a full-blown case of blood poisoning.

Daniel's last words were, "One last drink, please."
