Curse of the Goat
October 6, 1945 - It was on this day that Billy Sianis, owner of the Billy Goat Tavern, was kicked out of a World Series game between the hometown Cubs and the Detroit Tigers. The reason Sianis was ejected from Wrigley Field was because he had a live goat with him, and apparently the animal was stinking up the place.
Sianis was not happy about being kicked to the curb with his goat, and he famously uttered this curse as he was being escorted out:
Them Cubs, they ain't gonna win no more.
Unfortunately for Cubs fans, the curse was very effective in keeping the team out of the World Series for over 70 years. The Cubbies finally overcame the curse in 2016 when they beat the Cleveland Indians in 7 games.
